Semi-reclusive, Charlie has not left his home in years due to his morbid obesity. One day, a former student, Ellie, comes back into his life and finds him in a state of deteriorating health. As Charlie struggles to reconnect with Ellie and come to terms with his past, the play explores themes of isolation, forgiveness, and self-acceptance. "The Whale" premiered Off-Broadway in 2012 and received critical acclaim for its powerful performances and thematic depth.
